About Dar Al-Andalus Centre

Who We Are

Dar Al-Andalus Centre is a non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting peacebuilding and conflict resolution through the dissemination of constructive alternative narratives. The organisation was founded by a group of committed individuals who believe that dialogue, understanding, and community engagement are essential for preventing violent extremism and building lasting peace.

Our work focuses on addressing the root causes of conflict by empowering communities with knowledge, skills, and platforms that encourage peaceful coexistence. Through training programmes, community sensitisation, empowerment initiatives, and media engagement, we strive to promote reconciliation, resilience, and social harmony across communities in Nigeria.

Our Background

Over the past decade, the rise of extremist ideologies in Nigeria has led to devastating consequences, including the collapse of social systems, loss of lives, and the displacement of millions of people. Communities across the country, particularly in the North-East, have experienced deep social and economic disruptions caused by insurgency and violent conflict.

While many organisations have worked tirelessly to provide humanitarian relief and emergency support to affected populations, relatively few have focused on preventing violent extremism by addressing the narratives and ideologies that fuel conflict.

Recognising this gap, the founders of Dar Al-Andalus Centre came together with a shared vision: to promote peaceful alternatives to violent ideologies through education, dialogue, and community-driven initiatives.

Our Mission

To promote peacebuilding and conflict resolution by disseminating constructive alternative narratives that encourage dialogue, reconciliation, and community resilience.

Our Vision

A peaceful and resilient society where communities coexist harmoniously and are empowered to reject violent extremism and resolve conflicts through dialogue and mutual understanding.

Our Approach

Dar Al-Andalus Centre works through a community-focused approach that combines education, engagement, and media outreach. Our programmes are designed to empower individuals and communities to become active agents of peace within their environments.

Our key strategies include:

  • Training religious and traditional leaders to promote positive narratives that counter extremism.

  • Empowering vulnerable populations, particularly those affected by conflict and displacement.

  • Engaging communities through sensitisation programmes that encourage dialogue and understanding.

  • Producing media content such as radio dramas and videos that address the root causes of conflict and promote peaceful solutions.

Our Impact

Through our programmes and initiatives, Dar Al-Andalus Centre has contributed to strengthening peacebuilding efforts in various communities.

Our impact includes:

  • Empowering more than 120 women in internally displaced persons (IDP) camps through training and support programmes.

  • Producing over 50 radio drama episodes that promote peace narratives and community awareness.

  • Training more than 40 religious and traditional leaders to disseminate constructive alternative narratives.

  • Producing educational videos addressing pathways to conflict prevention and resolution.

These efforts help communities develop resilience, strengthen relationships, and create sustainable pathways toward reconciliation and peace.

Our Commitment

At Dar Al-Andalus Centre, we believe that sustainable peace can only be achieved when communities themselves are actively involved in the process of dialogue, reconciliation, and social transformation.

We remain committed to working with community leaders, youth, women, scholars, and stakeholders to build inclusive platforms that foster understanding, promote reconciliation, and strengthen the foundations for long-term peace.
